We are looking forward to our annual Middle School retreat planned for Thursday
and Friday, September 9 – 10, at Cedar Springs Camp in Lake Stevens.
Our Lord Jesus is awesome and we desire to point our students to
Him first and foremost.
Our focus will be on
NCA’s Scripture theme this year, Colossians 2:6 –
7:
“So then, just as you received
Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him,
strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,
which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather
than on Christ.”
We will
examine this scripture within the theme of this month’s chapels: Joseph: a
life transformed! Joseph was a young man determined to be rooted in devotion to
God and that devotion strengthened him, eventually paying huge dividends to his
family and adopted country.
Our guest speaker will
be Mr. Eddie Carter, a youth leader just back from another successful mission
trip to Cambodia, and husband of NCA teacher, Kari Carter. Mr. Carter
brings a fervent love for Christ and a love for kids to the teaching sessions
this year.
In addition to the focused ministry, this retreat
provides a unique opportunity for our students to build friendships, connect with
new classmates, bond with teachers, and have fun outside of the typical school
setting. There are plenty of outdoor recreation activities planned for
everyone. What a fabulous way to begin our school year!
We have been and are continuing to pray for this retreat. Your
child will be cared for and supervised by the middle school staff and approved
parent chaperones. Ten or more students, (boys and girls separated, of
course) will lodge in a cabin with adult supervision. A complete list of
all the chaperones, along with the final schedule, will be provided to you a day
before the retreat.
In His service,
Mike
Thornton, Middle School Vice-Principal
