Mrs. Lisa Walchenbach (Band/Orchestra/Choir) is
NCA's Director of Fine Arts and has been teaching Music for 22 years, 6
of those at NCA. She graduated with a BA in Music Education from Hope
College in Holland, Michigan. She has taught elementary and middle
school choral and general music in both Texas and Washington in public,
private, and Christian schools. Mrs. Walchenbach is certified in
Kindermusik, Orff, and Kodaly teaching methods. She is strongly
committed to serving God through the gifts He has given her, and loves
to share her passion for music with her students. Lisa and her husband,
Tim, have two sons, both who have or currently attend NCA.
Mr. Roy Herzer (Band/Jazz Band/Praise Team/Pre-AP Physics)
has a BA in Music Education from Central Washington University with 17
years of experience teaching and leading music and bands in public,
private and church settings. Mr. Herzer is an accomplished producer,
arranger, and conductor for many professional recordings ranging from
ABC, CBS and FOX News to work with The Bill Gaither Trio and Michael W.
Smith. He started his teaching career at Issaquah Junior High in 1979.
Mr. Herzer has taught biology and also teaches math, having earned a
minor in science along with his major in K-12 music education and
Mrs. Courtney McLain (Orchestra)
received her Bachelors of Music Education at Western Washington
University. She stayed at WWU to conduct the University Symphony
Orchestra for two years as part of her program and received her Masters in
Music Instrumental Conducting. Mrs. McLain has played violin since 1997 and has played every instrument of the orchestra at one point in
her schooling. She has taught private violin lessons since 2005 and began teaching at NCA in 2011.
Mrs. Jean Hale
(Art/Spanish) graduated from Seattle Pacific
University with a degree in Latin American Studies and Elementary
Education with endorsements in Spanish and ESL for K-12. She’s taken
every art course available during her school years plus watercolor and
soft pastel classes from local artists to broaden her experience. Mrs.
Hale’s philosophy of art is based on the fact that we are created by God
to be like Him, so that means we create too! She tells her artists that
we are most like God when we make something beautiful using tangible
things like color and repetition, and when we draw from the intangible
like: feelings, experiences, and ideas. Mrs. Hale has been a teacher at Northshore
Mr. Kris Peterson (Computer Coding/Web Game Design)
is NCA's Technology Facilitator and earned his B.A. in Sociology and
minor in Computer Science with an emphasis in Art at Seattle Pacific
University. Before his teaching career, Mr. Peterson worked in Hollywood
on commercials (though not in them). He has worked with startup
technology companies and started one from scratch for developing
educational applications. Mr. Peterson helps integrate technology at
Northshore. He and his wife, Denise's children have been students at
NCA and Mr. Peterson has worked at Northshore since 1999.
Mrs. Raine Sherwood (Robotics/Project Lead The Way) earned
her BA in Elementary Education from City University of Seattle. She
spent two years at King’s Elementary student teaching in 1st and 2nd
grade classrooms. In 2009 she started at NCA teaching for our summer program, then was hired as the Librarian and later as a 2nd Grade Teacher where she taught for 3 years. Mrs. Sherwood has taught computers since 2012 and currently teaches Robotics and Project Lead the Way classes.
Mrs. Kari Carter (Physical Education)
earned a B.A. degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early
Childhood Education from Central Washington University. She has
extensive soccer coaching experience at NCA and internationally. She
also runs summer sports camps for volleyball, basketball, and soccer.
She has been teaching since 2004, and has taught PE at NCA since 2007.
Miss Hannah Merisko (Physical Education) is a NCA alumni (Class of 2007). She
graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a BS in Exercise Science
and a minor in Health and Fitness Education. She played varsity
lacrosse and soccer since an early age (both at home and
internationally). She has been a soccer coach since high school, summer
camp coach at NCA, and a CrossFit coach. She is excited to educate children on living a happy and healthy lifestyle through physical activity.
Mr. Eudis Matos (Spanish)
graduated with a BA in Elementary/Middle School Education from UAFAM
University in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. Mr. Matos was born and grew
up in the Dominican Republic, before moving to Washington in 2009. His
first five years of teaching were at Doulos Discovery School (a
Bilingual Experiential Education Christian school in Jarabacoa). At
Doulos, he taught Pre-Kindergarten-4th grade and various middle school
classes including P.E., Computers, and Ethics. After moving to
Washington, he began teaching Spanish at NCA where he has taught 2nd
grade through Middle School Spanish since 2010.
Mrs. Debbie Ellis (Reading Lab/Study Hall) earned her Masters of Education from University of Washington. She taught for 7 years in the public school system as a Special Education teacher and has had training in the Slingerland® Multisensory Reading Approach. Mrs. Ellis joined the teaching staff at NCA in 2013 and both of her children have attended NCA.
Mrs. Terrie Lemcio (Drama) earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. She also earned her Masters in Teaching with K-8 certification from City University, Seattle. She studied Acting at the National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York. Mrs. Lemcio has a passion for dance and has previously taught tap and jazz dance classes. She loves to introduce students to the world of Theater. Mrs. Lemcio and her husband have one child who attends NCA, and she joined NCA's staff in 2015.
